Established in the early 1720s, the city was originally named Steitztown because of the many families that carried the name 'Steitz' that lived along a creek that ran through the city which was appropriately named Streitz Creek.

The name was changed to Lebanon, and the city was incorporated in 1885. It's important to note that, around the early 1900s the city had a population of 17,000, and as of the 2010 census, the population has only grown to 25,477. Although the community is not that large, this wonderful city does have a lot to offer in the way of space, attractions, local businesses, and well-maintained parks. For those not familiar with this area, Lebanon has been made popular with the creation of Weaver's Famous Lebanon Bologna.

There are also many celebrities that have come from this area such as Bobby Gerhart of NASCAR and Dick Shiner a former NFL quarterback, and a few more. Because of the city's popularity, there have been movies filmed in the community, and one has been notably named Lebanon, PA.
