Hummelstown is a lovely place to live, with its hustle and bustle downtown, yet it has a peaceful small town atmosphere. Most people know Hummelstown as a 'hotel Borough' due to most of the residents being employed out of the borough. They travel to neighboring boroughs to work, and return home in Hummelstown to their family to rest the day off.
There are plenty of active clubs and organizations which are active in the borough. There are plenty of civic organizations here that residents of Hummelstown and even residents of neighboring boroughs join. Residents also often enroll their children in various sports or scouting groups and organizations to keep them busy productively during their free time.
The community of Hummelstown often hold activities and events at one of the many parks in the borough such as the extremely spacious Schaffner Park, Alexander Park, Mehaffie Park where there is a huge playground built for children and huge space for recreational activities as well as the Hummel Nature Trail which is located on West Main Street which has a winding footpath along the Swatara Creek.
There are also plenty of annual cultural events of interests which Hummelstown, Pennsylvania plays host. The Lollipop Drop is held annually during New Year's Eve, there will always be a huge movie night at the Herbert A. Schaffner Memorial Park, food sampling event called The Taste Of Hummelstown along the main street, a craft fair held on every September called The Hummelstown Craftsfair, as well as Trick or Treat which are done on the last Thursday before Halloween night.
