Berks County was formed around 1740 due to the rapid expansion of Lancaster County. Representatives of Lancaster County requested several petitions for a new County to be established. Berks County was comprised of a melting pot from the counties of Chester, Lancaster, and Philadelphia.

Berks County is home to many attractions including the Reading Public Museum and the Homesteads of Conrad Weiser, predominant figure in establishing Berks County, and Daniel Boone, a famous American frontiersman. Berks County’s major municipalities include: Reading City, Muhlenberg Township,Exeter Township, and Spring Township. The County seat of Berks County is Reading.
